Pastor Robert: “Missionary Donna Logerstedt likened our visit to Conakry, Guinea as joining them in a race. There are those who cheer from the sideline through prayer. For the Logerstedts, any prayer support from the states is a big encouragement. Then there are those who join them on the “track” and actually run a lap with them, which is even more of an encouragement.
Perry and Donna Logerstedt, our International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries to the Maninka of Guinea, are in a challenging race, one they often feel they run alone. However, for a week and a half they were encouraged by the team you sent to West Africa. In their five years of service in Guinea, our team was the only volunteer team to run the race alongside them. In their words, we were an answer to prayer.
Missionaries face many challenges on the mission field, perhaps more so for those who serve in africa. It takes more energy and effort to live and work in an underdeveloped country like Guinea. After visiting the field, I am more convinced that no one survives the mission field without a strong call from God and a willingness to make sacrifices.
Here’s how you can remember the Logerstedts in prayer. Pray for their family. Their two older children attend a boarding school in a neighboring country. Pray for the family in their time of separation and as they build relationships in their community.
Pray for Perry and Donna as they learn the Maninka language. Though French is the official language of the country and is the language used in day-to-day business, the tribal language is the language of the heart. For them to reach the Maninka people, they must learn one more language.
Pray for the Logerstedts as they boldly share their faith and plant Maninka churches in a predominantly Muslim country. They constantly need God’s wisdom and courage. The thought of one missionary family assigned to millions in a people group is overwhelming.
As you pray for our new friends remember some other concerns: health, safety, strategies for reaching the lost, and for fortitude in spite of discouragements. As we celebrate the resurrection this month, remember to pray for the Logerstedts. Pray that their faith may be resurrected and they run in such a way as to win!”
